P158 Parash 53 HaAzinu Devarim 32:1- 32:52

Synopsis The song of Moshe, the Lord’s prophesy to Israel that they will disobey the law and follow other gods, Moshe instructed about his death

Theme & Message The theme of this portion is the nature of the flesh to reject the truth and goodness of Adonai. Ever since the time of the Garden, the flesh has persistently resisted the truth. The flesh enjoys convenient or self-empowering lies. The flesh cannot accept the truths of Adonai no matter how simple or how obvious. The flesh is so needy and selfish that it simply cannot understand that the Lord loves is in our imperfection. Adonai loves us even when we rebel. The flesh does not understand that this rebellion and lying is sin. The flesh denies that sin will lead to death instead of power and life.  Love is pure power that the flesh cannot comprehend. Love is the power with which Adonai created the universe. Such power is too awesome for the flesh. To grasp the power of love, the human must rely, not on the senses, but on the heart and in the spirit. The Lord asks each one of us to deny or suspend our flesh and join with Him in the Spirit. In the flesh, Yeshua’s sacrifice seems pointless. The flesh will deny that He lives again at His Father’s right hand. The flesh will deny that Yeshua has been granted all power. Only in the spirit are we able to see the truth – that we are spiritual beings created by God in Heaven. We cannot return to Him in eternal abundant life in Heaven unless we are willing to accept the power of Yeshua’s death and resurrection. Until we are willing to let go of the sinful limited flesh and grab hold of the eternal spiritual blessings of His ways, we will not see nor understand the truth and goodness of Adonai.

TORAH LESSON  - Devarim/Deuteronomy 32 -

In this chapter we have,

I.     The song which Moshe, by the appointment of God, delivered to the children of Israel, for a standing admonition to them, to take heed of forsaking God. This takes up most of the chapter, in which we have,  1. The preface (Deu_32:1, Deu_32:2).  2. A high character of God, and, in opposition to that, a bad character of the people of Israel (Deu_32:3-6).  3. A rehearsal of the great things God had done for them, and in opposition to that an account of their ill carriage towards him (Deu_32:7-18).  4. A prediction of the wasting destroying judgments which God would bring upon them for their sins, in which God is here justified by the many aggravations of their impieties (Deu_32:19-33).  5. A promise of the destruction of their enemies and oppressors at last, and the glorious deliverance of a remnant of Israel (Deu_32:36-43).

II.  The exhortation with which Moshe delivered this song to them (Deu_32:41-47).

III. The orders God gives to Moshe to go up to Mount Nebo and die (Deu_32:48, etc.).
