This week's End-Time Bible study
Should a follower of Jesus celebrate Christmas?
P113 Parash 10 Mikketz (At the end) B’resheet/Genesis 41:1 to 44:17
Synopsis – Pharoah’s dream, the famine, Israel sends his sons to Egypt seeking food, Yoseph/Joseph deceives his brothers, Ya’akov/Jacob’s sons return to Egypt with Benyamin/Benjamin, the sons of Israel change their ways
TORAH LESSON – Although Yoseph/Joseph’s family believed him to be dead or never to be seen again, Joseph was alive and well and the Lord was preparing him for his true great mantle. He was greatly anointed in the interpretation of dreams even while imprisoned. When the Pharaoh was given dreams neither he nor his other servants could interpret, it was the cupbearer who remembered Yoseph/Joseph’s gift and told the Pharaoh about him. The Pharaoh and the Egyptian people could see the anointing and gifting in Joseph a lifted him to a place of honor, respect and responsibility and trust. They trusted him with their lives, their very futures. As he prepared them for the impending famine he faithfully accepted the great task with respect and care. When the great famine finally struck the land, the other nations readily had begun to seek the bread from Yoseph/Joseph’s storehouses. Finally, it was the sons of Israel who appeared before him seeking the same bread. His true identity was hidden from the brothers in plain sight. They did not recognize their own flesh and blood. . The brothers along with their father needed to prove they had learned by Yoseph/Joseph then uses this trial to teach his brothers a valuable lesson in humility, repentance and forgiveness showing obedience and selflessness even if it meant risking the life of the precious young brother, Benyamin/Benjamin. For without this willingness of sacrifice, there would be certain starvation and death for the entire family of Israel. In the end, we see a transformed family who recognize their sin in selling their brother Joseph, recognize their helplessness to restore things to the way it should be, and finally show compassion in caring more for their brother and father than for themselves. They give over the entire situation to Joseph and depend on his mercy.

The focus of this Parash teaching is about Ya’akoves' ladder. About how this promise has been fought over for over 2000 by the Jews and muslims. See how this prophecy plays into world events today.
Synopsis – Ya’akov/Jacob leaves his hometown Be'er Sheva and journeys to Charan. On the way, he encounters "the place" and sleeps there, dreaming of a ladder connecting heaven and earth, with angels climbing and descending on it; God appears and promises that the land upon which he lies will be given to his descendents. In the morning, Ya’akov/Jacob raises the stone on which he laid his head as an altar and monument, pledging that it will be made the house of God.
In Charan, Ya’akov/Jacob stays with and works for his uncle Lavan, tending Lavan/Laban's sheep. Lavan/Laban agrees to give him his younger daughter Rachel -- whom Ya’akov/Jacob loves -- in marriage, in return for seven years' labor. But on the wedding night, Lavan gives him his elder daughter, Leah, instead -- a deception Ya’akov discovers only in the morning. Ya’akov marries Rachel, too, a week later, after agreeing to work another seven years for Lavan.
Leah gives birth to six sons – Re’uvan/Reuben, Shim’on/Shimon, Levi, Yehudah/Judah, Yissakhar/Issachar and Z’vulan/Zebulun -- and a daughter, Dinah, while Rachel remains barren. Rachel gives Ya’akov her handmaid, Bilhah, as a wife to bear children in her stead, and two more sons, Dan and Naftali/Naphtali, are born. Leah does the same with her handmaid, Zilpah, who gives birth to Gad and Asher. Finally, Rachel's prayers are answered and she gives birth to Yoseph/Joseph.
Ya’akov has now been in Charan for fourteen years and wishes to return home, but Lavan persuades him to remain, now offering him sheep in return for his labor. Jacob prospers, despite Lavan's repeated attempts to swindle him. After six years, Jacob leaves Charan in stealth, fearing that Lavan would prevent him from leaving with the family and property for which he labored. Lavan pursues Ya’akov, but is warned by God in a dream not to harm him. Lavan and Jacob make a pact on Mount Gal-Ed, attested to by a pile of stones, and Ya’akov proceeds to the Holy Land, where he is met by angels.
Theme & Message – Love, Commitment, serving the Lord with honor. Ya’akov served His father-in-law faithfully. The lord blesses his work by making the flocks grow. Ya’akov deals with four wives. Has 11 boys that are the beginning of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Parash 6 Tol’dot (History) B’resheet / Genesis 25:19-28:9
This Torah portion we will go over the true owners of what property belongs to who in the Middle East. In this portion we will see why we have such problems in that area of the world even unto today.
Synopsis – Yitz’chak marries Rivkah. After twenty childless years their prayers are answered and Rivkah conceives. She experiences a difficult pregnancy as the "children struggle inside her"; Yehovah tells her that "there are two nations in your womb," and that the younger will prevail over the elder. Esav emerges first; Ya’akov is born clutching Esav's heel. Esau grows up to be "a cunning hunter, a man of the field"; Ya’akov is "a wholesome man," a dweller in the tents of learning running the family business. Yitz’chak favors Esau; Rivkah loves Ya’akov. Returning exhausted and hungry from the hunt one day, Esav sells his birthright (his rights as the firstborn) to Ya’akov for a pot of red lentil stew. Thus fulfilling the prophecy told to Rivkah by Adonai when she was pregnant.
In Gerar, in the land of the Philistines, Yitz’chak presents Rivkah as his sister, out of fear that he will be killed by someone coveting her beauty. He farms the land, reopens the wells dug by his father Avraham, and bores a series of his own wells: over the first two there is strife with the Philistines, but the waters of the third well are enjoyed in tranquility. Esav marries two Hittite women. Yitz’chak grows old and blind, and expresses his desire to bless Esav before he dies. While Esav goes off to hunt for his father's favorite food, Rivkah dresses Ya’akov in Esav's clothes, covers his arms and neck with goatskins to simulate the feel of his hairier brother, prepares a similar dish, and sends Ya’akov to his father. Ya’akov receives his fathers' blessings for "the dew of the heaven and the fat of the land" and mastery over his brother. When Esav returns and the deception is revealed, all Yitz’chak can do for his weeping son is to predict that he will live by his sword, and that when Ya’akov falters, the younger brother will forfeit his supremacy over the elder.Ya’akov leaves home for Charan to flee Esav's wrath and to find a wife in the family of his mother's brother, Laban. Esav marries a third wife --Machlat, the daughter of Ishmael.
P109 Parash 5 Hayyei-Sarah (Sarah’s Life) B’resheet / Genesis 23:1 -25:18
Synopsis – Sarah dies at age 127 and is buried in the Machpeilah Cave in Hebron, which Abraham purchases from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver.
Abraham's servant, Eliezer, is sent laden with gifts to Charan to find a wife for Isaac. At the village well, Eliezer asks God for a sign: when the maidens come to the well, he will ask for some water to drink; the woman who will offer to give his camels to drink as well, shall be the one destined for his master's son.
Rebecca, the daughter of Abraham's nephew Bethuel, appears at the well and passes the "test". Eliezer is invited to their home, where he repeats the story of the day's events. Rebecca returns with Eliezer to the land of Canaan, where they encounter Isaac praying in the field. Isaac marries Rebecca, loves her, and is comforted over the loss of his mother.
Abraham takes a new wife, Keturah (Hagar) and father’s six additional sons, but Isaac is designated as his only heir. Abraham dies at age 175 and is buried beside Sarah by his two eldest sons, Isaac and Ishmael.
Focus of this teaching will be hand under the thigh. What does this mean? Also every knee show bow and how that it was a prophecy for the acharit-hayamim.
P108 Parash 4 Vayers (He appeared) B’resheet/Genesis 18:1-22:24
In this Parash we give a short overview of the “Three Men” that come to Avraham in chapter 18 and who they really are. After that brief discussion we will focus on chapter 19. How the things in the past are a foreshadow of the future. In chapter 19 of the book of Genesis we look at the topic of homosexuality. We will take a look at this chapter and other readings that speak about the city of S’dom and what it means for those today who have eyes to see.
Synopsis – God reveals Himself to Avraham/Abraham three days after the first Jew's circumcision at age 99; but Avraham rushes off to prepare a meal for three guests who appear in the desert heat (Do you know of any other 3 people who act as one?). One of the three announces that, in exactly one year, the barren Sarah will give birth to a son. Sarah laughs.
Avraham pleads with God to spare the wicked homosexual city of S’dom. Two of the three men arrive in the doomed city, where Avraham's nephew, Lot, extends his hospitality to them and protects them from the evil intentions of a Sodomite mob. The two guests reveal that they have come to overturn the place, and to save Lot and his family. Lot's wife turns into a pillar of salt when she disobeys the command not to look back at the burning city as they flee.
P107 Parasha 003 Lekh L’kha (Get yourself out) B’resheet (Gen) 12:1-17:27
The whole Parash reading is from Genesis 12:1 to Genesis 17:27 we are not going to study the whole parash. Over the past 2 years we have completed overviews on these chapters. They are on our website (www.bethgoyim.org) for all to watch and study.
Now it is time to go deeper into the Scriptures this Torah cycle. This time for Parash number 3 Lekh L’kha we are going to only focus on Gen 12:1-3 and the seven amazing blessing that line up with Genesi 1:1. Learn how these blessing of “I will bless those who bless you” ties together with the very first line of scripture. If that is not enough we will then study who is Malki-Tzedek, king of Shalem? Is this the Messiah Yeshua? Let us study the Holy Scriptures to see for sure if this is Yeshua or not? You will be amazed at what is found when you have your Hebrew roots.
